Meet the Teacher

Michelle Lewis

Exploration of the topic

Depending on the subject chosen, the teacher suggests that the students either do research (find information in the library or on the Internet), or create a questionnaire or write the questions for an interview. The teacher determines the type of media that will appear in the article. Each group creates a poster with the data collected.

Organizing the information collected

Students sort and analyze the data collected and presented in their posters. From their poster, students create a mind map that will be their reference document for writing their article.

Writing the articles

With the data collected and the mind map completed, the groups begin writing the article. The students write a “first draft” in a collaborative writing document.
Before the next session, the teacher identifies the students who will need help and decides what kind of help to give them. When each student has finished writing the part of the text for which he or she is responsible, the teacher combines the different parts into a single text document that will be presented to the group. The group reworks their text and posts it on the class blog with the help of the teacher.
